DERVAIG GUEST HOUSE - ACCESSIBILITY STATEMENT

 

We aim to meet the needs of all visiting guests and hope you have a comfortable and enjoyable stay. Please contact us if you have any questions and we’ll do our best to help you.

 

Pre-Arrival

  • There are bus stops from the North and South opposite and adjacent to our front gates
    There is a frequent bus service run in the main by Perrymans Coaches Limited
    There are many local taxis many with capacity for carrying 4+ passengers. We can make bookings for you
    Breakfast Menus can be provided in large print
    We have a website where you can read more about our home and the surrounding area

Arrival & Car Parking Facilities

  • There are double entrance gates which are open 24 hours a day
    There are no marked car parking bays but ample room for all cars
    The surface is level, flat and made from gravel with a tarmac footpath leading from the front gates to main house entrance
    We can assist you with your luggage
    Berwick upon Tweed town centre is approximately 5 minutes walk from our front gates

 

 

Main Entrance & Reception

  • The front door has three steps with supporting handrails on both sides
    Single maximum step height is 25cms
    The front door will normally be locked but you will be provided with a key for your convenience and there is a door bell if needed
    The front door width is 108cms
    The interior hall door will be unlocked and leads to a well lit hall
    There is a bell on the wall adjacent to the reception desk if you need assistance 24 x 7

 

 

Public Areas – General

  • Our ground floor corridor and landings are well lit
    All floors are newly carpeted with a short pile carpet
    There are 19 stairs to the first floor bedrooms

 

 

Public Areas – WC

  • All bedrooms are en-suite and there are no public WC facilities available

 

Breakfast Room

  • Breakfast is served in the ground floor breakfast room. There are no stairs
    Furniture can be moved upon request
    Menus can be provided in large print
    We do not play any background music in any area
    Some food items are self serve but there will always be someone on hand to provide assistance should you need it

 

 

Bedrooms & En-suites

  • There are 3 bedrooms – all on the first floor

 

 

Bedroom 1

  • Has a king sized bed and is accessible from both sides. Bed height 50cms
    Furniture is moveable upon request
    Television has remote control, teletext and freeview
    Two armchairs are provided in the room

Bedroom 1 – En-suite

  • En-suite door 85cms wide opening outwards
    Shower cubicle has a step 17cms high and door 74cms wide opening outwards

 

Bedroom 2

  • Has a double bed and single bed
    Double bed is accessible from both sides. Single bed accessible from one side. Beds are 60 cms high
    Furniture is moveable upon request
    Television has remote control, teletext and freeview
    Two armchairs are provided in the room
    Curtains are on a cord for ease of movement

 

Bedroom 2 – En-suite

  • o En-suite door 73cms wide opening outwards.
    o Shower cubicle has a step 30cms high and door 74cms wide opening outwards.

 

Bedroom 3

  • Has a double bed and is accessible from both sides. Bed height 60cms
    Furniture is moveable upon request
    Television has remote control, teletext and freeview
    One armchair is provided in the room

 

Bedroom 3 – En-suite

  • En-suite wide door- on a sliding mechanism

 

 

Grounds & Gardens

  • We have a large enclosed garden laid to lawn, shrubs and patio
    We have chairs available for you to sit and enjoy the space
    We have a fenced small pond
    There is one step from the patio to the lawned area
    There are two steps from the patio to the decked area

 

 

Additional Information

  • Assistance dogs are welcome
    Mobile phone reception is mixed – dependant on service provider
    We have a full fire alarm system with smoke detectors throughout the house which will ring out if evacuation is needed
    In an emergency you can exit from the front or rear of the property
    All first floor windows have full opening to provide additional emergency exit access as needed
    We have automatic emergency lighting from battery back-up in the public areas should the electrics fail for any reason
